Pick of the Month

Frogs and Toads of the Southeast

Thursday, June 4, 2009

This book has everything a nature book should have. It is clearly written, has a lot of good information, great photos and is beautifully laid out. To me, the layout is the best part of the book. It is so easy to find the info you are looking for. There is a section on identification - covering skin, legs, feet and toes, body pattern and color, distinctive characteristics and call. Range maps for each species lets you know where to look for each frog.

Once you have your frog identified, then the text covers the tadpoles, similar species, habitat, behavior, feeding and much more.
Fortunately for us here in the Northeast, most of our frogs and toads are covered in this book, since their range extends into the southeast.
Other books in the series are Lizards and Crocodilians of the Southeast, Turtles of the Southeast and Snakes of the Southeast.
