Pentax Papillio Binoculars

Saturday, April 4, 2009

While these binoculars are not the best birding binoculars you can buy, when you consider the price and what they can do, they are a must for all true nature lovers. I have a pair of high end binoculars that focus no closer than 12 feet. The Papilio binoculars, for about a tenth the cost, can focus from infinity down to 1.6 feet. That means I can watch birds with them as well as insects. One of my favorite activities is night time bug watching. I stand two feet away from a shrub, shine a flashlight on the leaves and look through my Papillio’s. Being this close, I can fill the image with any insect I spot. Being two feet away and seeing the bugs up close, I can watch without disturbing my subjects.
These binoculars are great for those of us who are getting along in years and our eyesight is not what it used to be. They are also great for looking at things on the ground without having to get down on our knees. We can get a close look at what’s on the ground while standing up straight.
I highly recommend these binoculars for anyone who enjoys watching nature up close.
